I went to see “Shitty Jobs” at UBC Theater LA tonight and it was INCREDIBLE. I laughed harder than I’ve done in recent memory. Two-thirds of Derrick Comedy was in the show (Donald Glover was unfortunately MIA), as well as Funny or Die contributor Eric Appel, Charlie Sanders, and Parks & Rec’s own maniac, Ben Schwartz.

The first half was tangental, short-form improv that really made me miss my Drama 3 days. The second half was a collection of improvised scenes based on a shitty job held by an audience member. I was called on to submit my shitty job (handing out 3D glasses and pretending to sweep in a circle at the Alameda Theatre and Cineplex), but in the end the winner was a guy who worked as a Laser Tag Referee (though they did continually make references to my theatre job).

The show was an hour long (but fortunately felt longer) and after the show I got to talk with Ben Schwartz, who is the nicest and most charming guy, despite what his onscreen “Jean Ralphio” persona would have one think.

Anyway, if you’re in the LA area and have a free sunday night (and by night, I mean 11pm-midnight), definitely go see this show. It’s $5 (plus $6 valet parking) for a ticket, but the show is priceless.
